Mirage
Rubbing my eyes, I shift in the bed sheets
Rolling over to find not you but someone else
Realizing you were just a dream
Groaning I toss and turn, yanking the blanket up to my chin
Grabbing the barking alarm clock to hush it
Glaring at the red time blinking 4:16 a.m.
I lie there and wonder, were you really here
I sigh and close my eyes, remembering your face
I yawn and think; you were never here
Sighing I think of our conversation
Segments of thoughts and speech come back to me
Shivering I consider all that could be
Reaching I find the source
Rousing the ripple lightly
Remembering what you said
I lay there and wonder, will it really be
I sigh and close my eyes, resisting what I cannot
I shake and quake and feel warm all over
The red time blinks again
Telling me its time to go, move on, get up
Torturing me with its twisted sense of humor
Slowly I move so you don’t wake, you next to me
Sleeping, but not you in my head
Singing, of the next time we will speak
Rolling over to find not you but someone else
Realizing you were just a dream
Groaning I toss and turn, yanking the blanket up to my chin
Grabbing the barking alarm clock to hush it
Glaring at the red time blinking 4:16 a.m.
I lie there and wonder, were you really here
I sigh and close my eyes, remembering your face

Sighing I think of our conversation
