Reigning King

For so long i've let darkness
Be my reigning king
With no thought of how
I was affecting other beings.

As poets we touch the soul
We bare our all
Some more eloquent and gifted
Though we all have something to say.

I've decided today darkness will not reign over me
That I will remember it's a beautiful day
All is not death and decay
I will not be a puppet for the pied piper.

Who seeks to take us into the pit 
Who causes us to burn from the inside out
Rains on our hearts
Makes us wish for things unobtainable.

I wish to be free
To give and not just take
Be a friend to those who need me
Inspire some hope today.

Yesterday was a dark day
I said there were no happy endings
Sometimes people need something to believe in
Today my soul is heavy for letting my darkness shine.

I will learn to control it in time.
