Tell Me Mister

Tell me mister, if you don't mind... why are you racing home in record time?

You walk the same route everyday
see the cardboard sign hiding a worn-out face
You turn to cross the street and always pass him by
never stop to ask, but I know you wonder why

Talk about injustice, talk about starting a third world war
say life's not fair, and you can't take it anymore
but let me tell you, there a battle raging on
inside the tattered minds of the broken and forlorn
and you may never know the feeling of being hopelessly lost
but I bet that everyone has a story, and there's so much you could be taught...

Hey darling child, what are you doing out so late?
The streets aren't a very friendly place
Little innocent, aren't your parents worried?
is there anywhere you need to be?

Talk about injustice, talk about starting a third world war
say life's not fair, and you can't take it anymore
but let me tell you, there a battle raging on
inside the tattered minds of the broken and forlorn
and you may never know the feeling of being hopelessly lost
but I bet that everyone has a story, and there's so much you could be taught...

Don't leave them out there to fend off the cold
show them a smile, to them it might mean the world
maybe it's a choice, maybe they've got no place called home
whatever the reason, they have feelings too!
Set aside your problems to look up and glance around
there is a person in that box there on the ground!

Tell me mister, if you don't mind... why are you staying out here tonight?
