The Lie of the Lifeless
Walking in the darkness
In a two-lane alleyway
Coloring through outlines of lipstick
Illuminating like neon signs
Inviting the touch of breath
Losing ones hat
where one already lost his head
As I shambled up the cruel staircase
Hanging onto a rail
Like a bus driver hangs on to his pension
The evenings froth
Still bubbling in the back of my throat
Like gasoline that was poured into an automobile
Glass after glass until the picture was blurred
Outlined in chalk
Then forgotten when walked on too much
Door handles whisking me through portals
To dumps of ether, covered in moss
Clawing for the light of pain
Tripping over landfill skylines
Into a messy bed of nails
Drifting into nightmares of the night
Eye lids stuck ajar, by memories
Perfume swamped into skin
Life is gone for the night
Never to return
In a two-lane alleyway
Coloring through outlines of lipstick
Illuminating like neon signs
Inviting the touch of breath
Losing ones hat
where one already lost his head
As I shambled up the cruel staircase
Hanging onto a rail
Like a bus driver hangs on to his pension
The evenings froth
Still bubbling in the back of my throat
Like gasoline that was poured into an automobile
Glass after glass until the picture was blurred
Outlined in chalk
Then forgotten when walked on too much
Door handles whisking me through portals
To dumps of ether, covered in moss
Clawing for the light of pain
Tripping over landfill skylines
Into a messy bed of nails
Drifting into nightmares of the night
Eye lids stuck ajar, by memories
Perfume swamped into skin
Life is gone for the night
Never to return
