LADY MACBETH'S PILLOW TALK
This poem, portraying Lady Macbeth as a rampant and ambitious young wife, was inspired by this student's essay assessment of her, which was one of the examples given in an article about the influence of modern jargon and thinking on student views of Shakespeare plays. It went: "She wanted Macbeth to prove his manhood and to have her husband on the throne."
You are my strong and virile lord;
Take me, impale me on your ‘sword’.
I’d like to have you on the throne,
To feel it rocking as we moan,
Conceiving princes by the score
Who’ll plague your enemies with war,
And princesses, feisty as me,
To wed to other royalty.
I could rule millions at your side,
Now that you have made me your bride.
Where there’s power there's lust, they say;
Involve me in your wicked way.
That Duncan is a waste of space;
YOU are THE man to fit his place.
You are my strong and virile lord;
Take me, impale me on your ‘sword’.
I’d like to have you on the throne,
To feel it rocking as we moan,
Conceiving princes by the score
Who’ll plague your enemies with war,
And princesses, feisty as me,
To wed to other royalty.
I could rule millions at your side,
Now that you have made me your bride.
Where there’s power there's lust, they say;
Involve me in your wicked way.
That Duncan is a waste of space;
YOU are THE man to fit his place.
