Dawn Of A New Day

He sits in the shadows,
Chained with lies,
Bound by deceit.
But no more.

These chains he bends,
Pulling.
They chafe his skin,
Fighting back.
But he is relentless.

Others watch.
The weak in envy,
For they wish to do the same.
The ignorant in disgust,
For they know not the world,
Beyond the shadows.

Chains break,
And he is rising.
He is bleeding,
For the chains cut deep.

He now rises,
But falls back down.
His skins are too heavy,
And hold him back.

Taking strength,
He sheds despair.
Cutting and striping,
He pulls off sorrow.
Bleeds out shame.

Rising on the shed skins of the past,
He stands true.
Naked.
Bared to the bone.
Tissue and ligament clinging to him.

He takes a step.
Another.
And another.

Now he runs.
The shadows are ending.
And he runs faster.
He bursts free.

He looks out to the horizon.
The sun is now rising.
He is a new man.
Freed,
From the ancient oppressors,
Who bound him in the shadows.

The sun now bears witness,
To the birth of a new man.
On the dawn of a new day.
