My Final Sunrise
On the horizon the burning sunrise
sets the sky ablaze
within my chest I feel my heart rest
as the sunlight steals my gaze
shades of fire dance in the morning sky
reds and oranges fade to yellow
silhouettes in my eyes
swaying in perfect tempo
my senses fall numb as my eyes drink in the sight
muted ears sleep in silence
my skin unknowingly warmed by the light
engrossed in sensory decadence
not sound nor word could form my lips
to describe the beauty I envision
into a trance my mind has slipped
without a conscious decision
as the splendid vision has drawn me in
I’ve ignored the burning in my eyes
molten tears flow across my skin
and trigger senses in my mind
with a snap my vision breaks
and I start to realize
that my skin crawls with tremendous pain
and blood flows from my eyes
on the horizon I’m amazed to see
a mushroom cloud in bloom
across my skin I feel the heat
my muted ears hear the boom
the smell of sulfur and burning flesh
quickly invade my nose
I inhale the scent of flaming death
and spit vomit on my clothes
the scalding air fills up my lungs
and turns them into ash
smoky breath climbs up my throat
a suffocating gasp
as my flame signed eyes liquefy
the very last thing I see
is the poetry of this brilliant sight
spreading out in front of me
sets the sky ablaze
within my chest I feel my heart rest
as the sunlight steals my gaze
shades of fire dance in the morning sky
reds and oranges fade to yellow
silhouettes in my eyes
swaying in perfect tempo
my senses fall numb as my eyes drink in the sight
muted ears sleep in silence
