Mucus

On antiseptic tongue of dog,
on many-coloured back of frog,
on tentacle or mollusc arm,
all snugly sat on battered lung.

On hagfish coil from under rock,
the sputum from a unwashed sock,
on larynx, so nothing is sung;
we wait until the deed is done.
