Scores burnt and driven past bursting arteries
Steps hasten and light is traded for answering sirens in blackness
Impact shudders and swells among instinctual castles of ancestors
Shattered bone mixed with pigment painted like chalk on cracked sidewalks
Demonic chants rise in circles surrounding impenetrable walls
Becoming the steps to caverns filled with
Bloody quicksand
One last grimace toward humanity
Breath is exhaled and conscience submerged
