fading smiles

we started out enemies
the best friend of your lover
I had an epiphany
let's befriend each other

starting out with selfish thoughts
I was but a lonely shell
talking to you because your hot
my intentions were not well

but as I grew to know you
you became my friend
these ill mannered feelings flew
my conscience on  the bend

and the closer we grew
the more I came to know
if only you knew
the feelings I couldn't show

they grew with our friendship
and  through the trials
I was just a blip
through our fading smiles
