Where I Stand
Now there are some who claim it all is a charade
that really one just is wasting time
to participate in electoral politics
really all about counting dimes
Money goes in money goes out
and things stay the same
for me detachment isn't a solution
it's like staying outside and moaning about the rain
But what I felt needed was to break away from the donkey
stop riding the merry go around
and being linked to politicians who give only lip service
avoiding solutions to problems that are found
For one big fallacy of liberalism
is that a program once started should always be
tragedy is when big business get it's hooks in it
while the smaller citizen still deals with misery
Such is the case with incentives to farmers
at one time the family farm fed the land
such an enterprise is anything but the norm these days
big Agra dominates the food hand
Even worse the liberal of today talks more than anything else
and then moans about not having a majority
isn't negotiating and dialogue part of the job
fewer numbers never stopped great states people in history
For even Reagan, who policies I didn't support
was able to get things he advocated done
despite a House control by the Democrats
far from being an inept actor he knew at least a few things under the sun
In states like Oregon statistics that a troublesome
twenty five years later still look the same
both parties controlled the state seats of power
which means really they just play the same game
And don't me started on the elephants
liberty and freedom the mantra they claim
well no one asked me if I wanted to send tax payer money to defense contractors
who will arm both sides of a dangerous game
We could write encyclopedias about Dick Cheney's grubby fingers
remember Halliburton that company he led
or how he promoted Blackwater's mercenary thugs
will service people and innocent Middle East citizens where left for dead
Or the idea that everyone can pull themselves up by the bootstraps
ad nauseam you can hear them say
but what if you can't even afford the shoes
no hard to fathom if you consider what Nike gives shoe producers in pay
Or this idea that people on unemployment or food stamps are lazy
that facts don't gel with this view
for as middle class and below must struggle
more then one job is needed to barely get through
And so many people that would love to be employed
but right now anything half way decent is impossible to find
unless you can uproot the family
go abroad and leave the US behind
For now the multinational company
can play games and find the cheapest work stream
for the parent with young mouths to feed
much more limited choices and more precarious is that dream
That the next family generation with find possibilities even grander
the struggle won't be as much
a helping hand won't be so hard to find
so insensitive to one another's touch
So maybe being unattached to the elephant or donkey
yet registered is a waste of time
but someone please explain an alternative
for isn't bowing out really making one more blind?
that really one just is wasting time
to participate in electoral politics
really all about counting dimes
Money goes in money goes out
