perfection
Perfection is an illusion, the desire for it an infection,
Tainting the lives of many great men and women in this world.
Destroying our society with images of “beauty,” Leaving women out there, counting each calorie.
Disappointing great artists with hopes of flawlessness,
When the best works show the beauty of error.
Showing men how strong they should be,
So they sink into prescription strength “enhancers.”
The desire for perfection is flawed,
For perfection doesn’t truly exist.
How can one define a word with so many meanings?
How can we wish to be something that varies so greatly?
You can always work to better yourself,
And I strongly believe you should,
But never change yourself to fit someone else’s definition,
Of the lie that is perfection.
