Tormented Youth

You think you know pain and suffering,
You “tormented youth,” you.

Strive hard to show your indifference,
Cherish individuality,
Seek acceptance through ostracism.

You want tormented?
Look to the inner-city.
People grow up surrounded by violence,
If they see the age of 21 they're “lucky”.
Yet, you say you have it so “hard”?

Mommy and daddy made things EASY for you,
Always clothed,
Always watered,
Always fed,
Always with a roof over your head.

Difficult,
Hard,
Complex,
Tormented,
You know not the meanings of any of the words.

You want hard?
Look at the paraplegic,
Bound to his wheel chair.

You want hard?
Look at the homeless man,
Unable to get a job,
Alive only by the good graces of others.

You want hard?
Look at the single mother of four,
Working three jobs,
Only to slow her sinking debt.
