Her Presence Keeps Me Alive

She pretends that she's content,
And yet she always seems to hide.
She acts calm and collected,
But she's hurting like crazy on the inside.

She can't show she's angry,
She can't show when she is sad,
She can't show when she is happy,
Or even when she is glad.

She secludes herself from others,
Because she believes they won't understand.
How she could bring harm to others,
Just by reaching out for her hand.

Some might say that trying to get her to open up,
Might be a waste of time.
But I feel as though I come closer to her,
With every passing rhyme.

It's taken me some time,
In fact quite a while.
I still can't hear her laugh at my jokes,
But I can see her smile.

She might not show it,
But I don't think she minds it when I am by her side.
But in those moments when she chooses to be around me,
I have never been so happy as to just be alive.
