The Shield
Don’t shift the blame
of your misconduct
upon me.
Don’t rant and rave
since it wasn't me
who betrayed you.
The crown of thorns
around my heart
I’ve been winding up
in the course of time
is no longer a shield
against your indifference.
It only makes me
bleed to death.

that's pretty heartbreaking,
my friend...if no longer a
shield, use it perhaps as
a weapon..? Excellently

A weapon instead of a shield ...
might be a good alternative
since if someone crushes your heart
he will at least have his fingers
pierced.
Thank you for your encouraging comment, dear Paul!

Ms Chi very poignant and powerful scribe, the pain and heartbreak pierced by those thorns is quite acute.

I'm so busy that you must think I'm just lazy. Sorry it took me so long to respond but NOW I'll do it!
Thank you so much, Gabriel, for your lovely comment. Yes, I was thinking hard about using the religious metaphor but decided to do so since it was the first expression that came into my mind ...

I like Dartford's comment on using your shield as a weapon. I concur. You know, they say that the best defense is a good offense. This is one thorny write...Mourgana is also correct...no rose without the thorns. Now that I'm done letting everyone else do my commenting for me...
indifference...sometimes there is nothing worse. Hatred is actually better. At least there's a feeling, yes? & I feel you on this. Sometimes it just makes me wanna beat someone with a heavy piece of construction equipment...let's see them be indifferent THEN. Ha! Always looking forward to your posts, Chiyo...

Oh, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, dear Ben! With regard to defenses you are so right. Nobody wants to be hit unexpectedly, no one likes to deal with indifference which is so painful. But I assume it's quite painful for those who ARE indifferent. They miss so much.
Looking forward to your posts, too, Ben!

Thank you very much for your lovely words!
I'm sure someday you'll find the one
who loves you dearly!!! Without a shield
we might appear vulnerable but we're
also more open to welcome true love. xx

Dear forever_young, I'm honored by your kind words and sorry for the lost of your friend. I think to lose a long-time friend is even more painful than "just" losing a lover since the relationship with a best friend is much more special. Trusting a friend and being betrayed is something you can't get over with. I hope that another very good friend might fill in the gap by and by. xx

Thank you; you get it; you understand. I wish I could let go...but every text or call from her reels me back in.
