Everybody seemed to think
that particular stratagems
were the cause of occasional
misfortunes, like fate in a
Greek tragedy. Many skills
and arts had atrophied, even
the public had not been what
it once had been, absorbing
without reaction or resistance:
Yet she had many
means at her disposal.
Were they impressively
attractive. Sitting in
the dark would have been
so much more effective,
even the public would not know.

sitting in the dark would have been so much more effective..this is hitting in me deeper as gloomy moody skies I feel in times now.the way you have zeroed upon her state of mind is indeed a good poetic format n tale. thank you for this share, my poetic friend ~Uma.
