ESCAPISM

Sometimes we are afraid to face reality,
And we want to live in a world of fantasy,
We choose to close our eyes so we can’t see,
And cover our ears so we can’t hear any.

We pretend that we are stronger than others,
That we can handle any kind of struggles,
That we don’t need anybody’s shoulders,
We can live without depending on someone else.

Pretending means covering up the worries,
A mask that hides someone’s doubts and fears,
We are showing a smile to disguise the agony,
Forcing a laugh to reduce the anxiety.

It’s denying the truth and believing the lies,
Counting the great times rather than the cries,
Displaying positivity despite the nothingness,
Giving more love and forgetting the emptiness.

In desperate times we even do daydreaming,
Fabricating a world where we can do anything,
A sanctuary where we can do everything,
A place where no hurt and tormenting feelings.

Daydreaming can stop you from frustrating,
It’s giving your heart a break from aching,
Like a dynamo that can boost your physical resources,
It can recharge your emotional and mental batteries.

Pretending is faking, daydreaming is illusioning,
Spelled differently but have the same meaning,
Few of the best ways in pacifying the pain,
Better than torturing yourself from useless crying.

It’s our choice whether to fight or to flight,
And sometimes we choose to runaway and hide,
In weakest times we prefer escapism than realism,
Ended up using escaping as our defense mechanism.
