Kiss
We stand
looking out into the ocean
you are bundled against
the cooler October breeze
that continually washes over us
the warmth of the sun
not reaching through to you
I stand gazing out at the waves
slowly crashing onto the shore
my open sweater
blowing in the wind
I close my eyes and feel the wind
and sun against my face
You look at me and say
"this doesn't bother you?
are you not cold?
let me warm you"
and you extend your arms
and hold open your coat
hesitantly, I enter
your arms
and you whisper in my ear,
"may I kiss you?"
I pull away slightly
and look off into the distance
and I ask,
"are you sure you want
to do that?"
