CRASHING CASTLES

to write beauty
into the lines
of everything
is foolish

it’s true
that fools are safe
and yet fools
fall hard
and i was a fool

i looked into your eyes
and imagined
that they saw me
i looked at your body
and the pounding
of a heart gone mad
spewed blood
through bursting veins
i loved you
and became a fool
with a fool’s
breaking heart

and yet with all the lies
my feelings told my brain
with all the castles
that are crashing down
around me
with all the dreams
you grind your feet into
as you walk away
there is beauty
so pure
that it hurts

you touched me
and your touch
was the calming
of a million raging storms

you touched me
and it meant
not a thing
to you

you said
you loved me
but your words
were just the things
you wrapped
your silence in

my words were strewn
like petals
between our souls
i threw them there eagerly
only to have them gathered
and flung aside
by you
