Fairies
There are fairies in the garden
the primroses tell me so.
foxgloves too confirm,chiming
bells on steeple stems
rung by hungry bees and hoverflies.
I have never met or seen them
perhaps one day I shall, but
I need no proof, life cannot be
without their guardian vigils.
Crows and gaudy jay chase
finches but whispers
of the fairies keep them safe.
There is a corner by the fence
overgrown, unkempt, hedgehogs
nestle in the leaves winter nights
no threat, I see them now and then,
say hello, but fairies
keep their distance,I hear games
gossamer veils on moon lit nights,
friends tell me these are spiders'
but I cannot believe. . . . . . .
Happiness has no rationale;
my magic world secure to share
with those who can believe.
Smile or laugh,but I know
foxgloves will bloom next year
and primrose too.
Calm and still,
no turmoil in the air
the same as last we met,
I hear gentle waves
join in your delight
buoyant at your side,
as we swim the summer lake
flesh combined . . . . .
shared and discrete
not to wake the pigeon
cooing love as we.
Across the waves
hear summer thunder
retreating from the morning sun,
glory in its yellow light
solos joined in bliss
duet now and unison;
hold the moment close
thoughts entwined
wallow once again, in
balms of mind and soul
drink of the crystal lake
quenched . . .satisfied.
