cigarettes & lighters

As she fumbled through her satchel
with her paint chipped fingers
Looking for a light to her cigarette

A man approached her
Blond hair
and cocaine eyes
asking for a light

Stirred but not shaken
she fumbled until she found her favorite bic
as she handed it to him
she heard soothing in him
as he said thank you ma'am

A tattooed southern
Intoxicated gentleman

Eyes piercing to her soul
a moment of attraction

as he cracked an honest smile at her
she smiled back

both silently understanding the past
And present hurt
Going on inwardly

Been a while since either has smiled

Enjoying the cigarette together
as the wind blowed
They found a moment of peace

Before he left he told her thanks again for the lighter

Walked off

She wanted so desperately to continue to speak
Continue the moment they had
But unsure of how he would react
She quieted her thoughts
And that's when..

He looked back and asked her
Want to come home with me ?
