How a Man Faces the World
There really is
a fine balance
between being
just enough attentive
to make you feel
you have to watch him
and his being there
all the time
so that
eventually
you stop looking
at all
and he becomes
an annoyance
for being
too ready
to please....
if he does
all of it,
you will lose interest,
is a strange game.
He has to
look away
enough
for you
to take a candid look
and see
that 5 o'clock shadow
of confidence.
The one
where he faces down
a group of bully boys
and tells them
it would not be fair
because there are
only 4 of them,
and he has a girl
at home
who loves him.
