We Belong to the Shadows

If you ask this memory to show you
What has already been seen
I assure its the shadows you've perpetually wiped clean
Only hiding for so long as whispers wave the trail
Walking down the pathway hoping someday to prevail

The coldness of your breath reaches a highth never condemned
Your eyes now filled with mystery
Except now they remain blackened
If you ask this simple question
I will reply
We belong to the shadows
With this noting, I was never sure why

Night crawls across your belly with a promise
Always lingering in bundles until its made true
However as long as this path remains darkened with grief
So will you
Make up any lie
Laugh at your own drooling jokes
While that heart stays empty
Point to the fires and the smokes

Seas will drown you as said by dawn
But senselessly you walk in hopes that one day will come
Perhaps he'll use you at least as his special pawn
Its better than the truth that leaves a million scars
Better than a teardrop lying on your spirit, your wooden guitar
So ask me again if you please
I shall reply
We belong to the shadows
With this foretelling I'll never know why
