Terms & Agreements
When I was sixteen,
I thought I knew trouble.
called her by her first name,
waited for her all day.
with my back to the sun,
my hair wild in knots.
I held hands with trouble,
smoking in a parking lot.
a young girl, and a pack of Marlboro's
teenage rebellion in a cloud of smoke.
Remember all the plans?
"once we're out of this town."
I don't think that world
would recognize me now.
but that's just how life goes
a maze of twists and turns
but I read the agreement
and I accept the terms.
When I was twenty-one,
I flirted with trouble.
called her by a pet name,
and played with her all day.
with my back to a wall,
since I'm being honest
I shot up with trouble
sitting in a closet.
a pretty girl and a real bad habit
a bad case of, "please I gotta have it."
Remember all the plans?
"once we're out of this town."
I don't think that world
would recognize me now.
but that's just how life goes
a maze of twists and turns
but I read the agreement
and I accept the terms.
Now I'm twenty-four
I still hear from trouble.
but we keep our distance,
peaceful coexistance.
I get to keep my head on,
but still dance all night.
and if I'm not okay,
at least I'm all right.
I'm just a girl, for whatever that's worth
trying to find and map out my course.
