Casting Out

Liquid ink skies pour buckets
in the dense forest jungle
ripping white light flashes sporadic
gnashing the billowing black
there among the trees stands a man
dressed vacant of the scene
kissing the distance with faraway eyes
as drops flow unto raging rivers
his sigh heaves a heavy chest  
breathing in a cold starless night



The streaks of grey that outline his face
share weather stretching the landscape
pounding down nails in smoke trail indifference
he wonders if the fishermen sense him
if they'd point out his spot and position
never matters if they got close
he'd be gone in an instant.
This rugged runaway fled the boys in blue
holed up watching shop intently
from his island vantage point



He chuckles slightly to himself
how he swam fervently over
while sirens scream alleys
searching the dead end little town.
who would've thought a manhunt
travels only the breadth of a water line
traversing then three point miles
such a quaint sleepy place buzzing
safety hearkens crickets  swell
to fading sirens and campfire glow


Fireflies dance dotting the riverside
each camper a bug hugging the earth
adding his insect he warms the night
hands to the fire and eyes to the sky
hoping like hell rains disperse
trickle then slowly tapering off
"any luck?" passes the caster
floating his way down catching slight laughter
the islander pulls out his fetch
Dazzled,as he hears "fish on!"


A chain swings but his eyes don't blink
mist rising to iris cloud nine
where forged links consummate clasp
this golden locket he saw
an inscription imbedded, forget me not
feeding the beast his quest in fire
burning this journey commands aspire
letting himself drift unto sleep peacefully
knowing,by foggy morning memory
he'll be gone from this island
