To Tame The Savageness And Gentle The Life Of The World
Write a poem and if you enjoy the feed back
is it such a chore to click on the thumbs up?
does your hand get weak from the thought of being kind?
The fact that someone took the time to critique
to observe, to relate and celebrate
usually gentle in a sharing of the mind?
No not every comment is deserving
on a tangent the statement may go
the only question is was it helpful to you
or were the words captain obvious
nothing you didn't already know
so you are a wordsmith and haughty too?
Harder side of poetry doesn't mean we must be harsh
with the writings of other wonderful souls
I treasure friends like Strider and Kitty, so great when they chime in
click the box of so many others reading their compositions
two of many considerate authors it is a joy to read
their undeserved kindness seems to have no end

I agree with you. It's really not that difficult. But perhaps they forget to?

Some do care but are too busy...
Some care but fail to comment - for a variety of reasons
Some do not care...again who knows what their reasons are....
The unspoken rule is to at least reciprocate to the people who have taken time to comment on yours...
I try to do that
Now if there is a really catchy title....

Catchy title? Isn't that like judging a book by it's cover?
What I am suggesting is that when you have comment after comment and NOT EVEN ONE THUMBS UP, the idea that EVERY SINGLE PERSON FORGOT OR IS TOO BUSY is BOGUS!

My second copy... you seem to be on a mission to alert the DUP family about the seriousness of eye trouble? Or was the primary message about how messed up medicine is?

I am on a mission to alert the DUP family, friends and lurkers to NOT dismiss the sudden appearance of floaters in the eye. Not taking this seriously and not having access to an opthamologist - preferrably one with retinal detachment experience.....can lead to BLINDNESS......
So I am on a mission.....sometimes family physicians do not even know that there is NO correlation between the number of floaters and the DEGREE of possible RETINAL detachment.
The treatment is EASY and PAINLESS....I have had
cryosurgery...no prep..no pain...over in 15 minutes.....
YES...EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW....

A LECTURE ON KNOWING EYE EMERGENCIES
Poem Image
DRIVING AROUND TRYING TO SAVE MY EYES
Driving around to save my eyes
Meant seeing a physician who said
They knew nothing as only an Eye Doctor would do
Then sent us to Urgent Care
Where there was a kindly old Doctor there
Who saw “something”, but did not have the equipment
Sent us to a hospital fifteen minutes away
Where we waited for one hour
To be told we were in the wrong place
Got once more into the car
And drove to Ann Arbor
The nightmare had just begun
As the streets only one way run
Finding emerg at the U of M
Meant making four attempts
Finally when we found the place
Into a dark room I was placed
Where a harassed resident came to see me
But was called incessantly
One hour later we walked through the maze
Of halls in this hospital to get to Ophthalmology
With its big powerful machines
Waited for the first replacement to come
She looked at my eyes, saw “something”
Waited for an hour more
A resident higher and more secure
Looked again and said he saw “something”
By the time I was finished
My pupils had been dilated five times
We had to be escorted out to our car
Then even my sweetie was too tired to drive
Getting out of Ann Arbor was a mess
Driving and driving till we reached the end
Finally praying to all deities
We managed to find a way home somehow
That was not the end as this was a Saturday night
Tuesday came along, had to see my Ophthalmologist
Who like the others “saw something”
Finally by Friday I saw a Retinal Specialist
Who determined I had a detached retina
How it detached, no-one knew
It was fixed with cryosurgery
Which means lowering the temperature
Of the jellylike eye to make an eye popsicle
It worked for two years, until last Monday
When again the driving started again
Saw the doctor today
He saw “something”
We will have to drive his way
Next week.......

Thanks. I will be the first to admit I struggle with some comments that are intriguing but not really helpful, because on occasion the follow up comment is in response to my own, which has nothing to do with the poem!

At the outset I was determined to not only give a thumbs up to people commenting on my own work, but also reading all the other comments on fellow poet's compositions. These days I just worry about my own creations and any follow up to my comments...

Poet, by no means is this directed at you. Two things that bother me a bit:
A reader will put you poem on the favorite list but not send the reader some love by suggesting what it is they liked. True we do write for ourselves but it can only help to know what it it that moved a reader.
Second, when you have 20 comments and not a single person clicks on the thumbs up. That has to be more then just people forgetting folks are either downright lazy or they don't think the comments merit any credit!

They may also leave a lovely comment...but fail to click on the "like" button....
I agree with the thumbs up....but I think not everybody looks so closely at the feedback options...
again...you have shown yourself to be a critical thinker....
good points...

Yeah right---I think the majority will find my words to be incessant babbling about something that is unimportant! Really my only point is when you have a high number of comments is EVERYONE simply forgetting? I think I have said enough...I will get on to another topic. :)

....sad as it may sound...I have such a hard time keeping up with all my followed friends...Time that wicked wench....so I don't add as many as I should...wanting to be able to savor the good friends like You I have found here...and well...i'm a thumb addict...to me it seems proper kindness to ensure that hey I read Your words meant for me...You put in time for me...thank You...and I shall gladly do the same for You....But that's me...some folks here follow MANY MANY others...I couldn't do this...I'd drown in self made obscurity and lose focus I Love in watching fellow friends change with the time--excellent Ponderings Sir!!!

You have more discipline than I do! When I see someone has added me as a writer they follow or takes the time to comment on several things I wrote, I feel compelled to read their poems...then I am hooked!

Re: To Tame The Savageness And Gentle The Life Of The World
Hello friend; Understand what you are saying an agree with it whole heartedly... I am very glad that you brought this topic up however; because a matter of fact is that many use writing as a therapy, as I do, I know I will not make it as a writer, just do it for the love, an release of it that it brings... This is because the nature of it is I, as many writers do, struggle with depression, anxiety, mood swings, an many other things that make one become withdrawn from society, with barely the strength to write, compliment or complain. Yes, even daring to venture out there an write down your thoughts on comments, dislikes, critiques, in manys eyes are still a form of society, an it can bring forth a fear of being judged, an thrust back into society that many struggle to be a part of... It is no always a result of being uncaring, but sometimes, a result of darker, phobias of being able to reach out, instead of withdrawing... Does this make any sense to you my friend... deadwolf/Eddie

Your comment makes sense and if I believed that was the case with everyone, I would be cool with it. However after looking at some the language found in the Forums, I find it hard to believe that those people who fill up the boxes with curse words and trite dribble can make a claim of that sort.
Totally valid point about therapy---I do believe that everyone of us here gets some form of help from being able to create poems.

Good points on use of poetry as therapy and anxiety and depression as there are many here who use poetry to cope....and when we are not coping...we often fail to give comments, thumbs up, likes...etc...THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE...but it is my truth....

The truth is my sharp comments aren't directed at you! Those moments when you don't give a response are more than justified: you are dealing with health matters that would have me balled up in bed! (that is if that was a position that didn't hurt)
Thumbs up is a bit more subjective. What to do with the comment that is on target but doesn't really have anything to do with the poem?
