Broken Wings

An image of innocence, You glance into the mirror, Hating your reflection
Your hair hangs loose upon your shoulders, Scars cover your wrists as ghostly hands
Bruises upon your cheeks, Hiding behind your makeup, You beg for release
Handprints upon your thighs, The fingerprints upon the gun to your temple

You scream out to the sky, Your mouth never uttering a single word of agony
You plead for an escape, Your feet never carrying you through the streets alone
You give your life away, An acceptance, A giving in, You’ve given up
Your tears are never seen, Your eyes remain closed, While the world closes in

He stumbles into the door, Drunken and angry at your foolish existence
Cursing your stupidity, He throws you up the stairs, Knowing all too well
Throwing you upon the bed, He cares not what you say, He’s bound by greed
His breath upon your neck, His tongue upon your lips, His arms around your throat

Bleeding out, You feel your lip begin to swell, Bleeding out, You feel your arms ache
Bending to his will, Your hips begin to creak, Aging by every painful second in hell
You’d give your life for peace, Death approaches you and befriends you
His whispers are the nail in the coffin, “I would never hurt you like this”

You believe every raspy word, Anything to get away from the devil next to you
Slipping away in the night, Slinking through the whiskey bottles and burnt bibles
You wrap the rope around your neck, Staring at the suicide note written
“I was the angel born into the arms of a demon, My wings must be free again”

As the world fades away, As your breath comes in short gasps, As you feel death’s arms
You feel the comfort of a thousand angels, Finding your home amongst the stars at last
As you become still, As your soul escapes this decrepit home, As you steal a glance in the mirror
You see the beauty I have seen all along, My face appears at last, I beg you not to go
