A Thousand Tomorrows

The tyrants break and the victims call, Another holy war with a thousand ideas
When will yesterday end, When will today usher in another useless way to change
The victims break down and the tyrants call out, Another holy war lasting a thousand tomorrows
No one wants your bitter end, They just want to know who rules our everything

A nation built to honor the gods, Slaughters on the steps of congress and the house ignores
The streets are paved with gold and the weeds between our hearts are fueled by blood
Paper belittled to ash, Flames dance on walls they stand upon, As a cigarette is lit
Cry your prayers to the leaders of yesterday, Your names will never find the new dawn

Leave your homes, Forsaking safety for the promise of a reflection of a better man
Leave your love, Forsaking peace for the promise of a darkened ray upon your face
As the heavens open to thank your reaper, Your death will usher in a second of silence
The gates close to your violent ways, The lights are turned to show the faces of your children

A generation of sheep, Shuffle along by long faces and stares from a haunted past
Questions are forgotten while answers are lost, Battle lines are blurred with ignorance
Red letters spill from blackened chimneys and soot rains down to cover hopeful eyes
Your eyes don’t need sight to see you’re blind, Your eyes don’t need sight to see your blind

A nation of the meek, Forever seeking a ruler strong enough to break their wills
Killing their hope of a painful change, Take the cents to pay for common sense
Bow to broken statues and hollow static, Walls close in as the roof caves in
To bury you beneath the weight of your sins, Your hell awaits with gnashing teeth
