Shoah
Silent screams pierce my
ears across the decades
Sleepless, I relive them
as though I too were there
I harbor their burden
a left arm tattooed

the holocaust is such
a huge calamity (is,
not just was, of course),
that I am almost fearful
of commenting...except
to say what a great
poem...

My friendship with a child survivor of
the holocaust prompted this poem.
The more I learned of it, the more
horrified I became that human beings
could do this to each other.

Re: Shoah
As human beings--each and every one us with souls capable of compassion--should be haunted by the screams of all who tragically perished during the Holocaust(Shoa)to ensure that such a heinous act is never again repeated.
Auschwitz--The Archway to Hell...your photograph, and poem, both are memorable tributes to ALL those lives senselessly taken.

Thank you for your insightful comment.
While Auschwitz was just one of many
camps, the whole concept of the Holocaust
I find more disturbing than anything I
could imagine.

What's even more disturbing was the
camps in Bosnia during the 1990's.
How could Europe let it happen again?

Thank you for this poem.
In memory of my mother and father
who survived and the many relatives
who perished under horrific circustances.
"My friendship with a child survivor of
the holocaust prompted this poem.
The more I learned of it, the more
horrified I became that human beings"
It was more horrific as the Germans were
the most technologically advanced country
at the time and had the best writers and
musicians and philosophers......
could do this to each other."

Only people who know those who survived
can have an inkling of that horror.
Whenever leftist ideologies such as
fascism, nazism, or communism get a
foothold, genocide results:
20 Million under Stalin
40 Million under Mao
2 Million under Pol Pot
6 Million under the Nazis
--------------------------

further....more genocides are going on...
like Darfur....and in History...genocide is not a modern thing....it has been tried before...just did not have the modern capability to run concentration camps and nuke Nagasaki and Hiroshima.....

Sweetness and light hasn't been
my thing lately, but yes my
heart breaks too.

The images are indelible. The poem brings them into clear focus once again.
