Daisy

I take these scars with me-
I take them where ever I go.
and if I happen to meet you there
I’ll show you each and every one.
You’ll see my story printed out thin
and you’ll notice how I scraped through.
Then I’d pick you out a daisy
and remark how pretty it is to have survived
up til now in this heartless world.
And then you’ll roll up your sleeves
and we will match like puzzle pieces
drawn together by an accident of love.
I’ll watch as we pull tight the covers
and protect our healing souls from them-
the world of tiny moments and understated misery.
You know I can’t save you darling
but really I don’t want to.
Those scars don’t predict your end
except that I’ll be there.
And if I happen to die first, don’t worry,
you’ll see me waiting with a whole bunch of daisies-
one for every time you survived, love.
But just like that daisy memories ago
you only survived up til now.
(though that’s all you needed to do anyway.)
