The Poet
I sat fingers interlocked in my hands
Staring at the sky
Counting my grains of sand
As time slipped forward and I grew older
Moments in my life gone
And I felt a little bit bolder
But no more then a soldier and no less then a coward
My hands hovered over the air
Where I would touch your face
No one else was there
Just the wrinkles of my hand
The lines of my life
The world held in one spot
I can't see the future or talk to the past
I can't fall in love again
Or tell you who ruined everything if asked
Minds are a tricky thing
People will tell you we are all happy at some point
Where are we the rest of the time?
Wondering about that person we lost
or loved or never had the chance
The world is on a fence
And we are just on either sides as grass
Some are better and higher in class
Everyone has a heart and lives
We have that in common
I catch a leaf in my hand and blow it away
On the wind wondering how it's fate got there
Even a simple photograph can spark everything
Something as simple as getting a splinter can change your course of life
A thousand suns and a thousand moons
They never change
They never look the same
As a child nothing mattered
I could crawl anywhere and not care
Now I sit and just stare
A tear from my eye as my memory displays a million pictures
When the world was in front of me instead of behind..
When I held my hand out and touched you
With perfect skin
Until no more grains fall
And my world has seen it all
Staring at the sky
Counting my grains of sand
As time slipped forward and I grew older
Moments in my life gone
And I felt a little bit bolder
But no more then a soldier and no less then a coward
My hands hovered over the air
Where I would touch your face
No one else was there
Just the wrinkles of my hand
The lines of my life
The world held in one spot
