Screams of the Night
My desk lamp begins to flaunt and flicker
in these nights that fall quicker and quicker
Sex and cigarettes fuel this old ticker
along with a morning bottle of liquor
I plan to stay for ever and ever
in this room, at the end of my tether
scribbling away, this is my endeavour
even though I can't focus whatsoever
A heart and soul (neither of either)
wants you to stay until I remember
you aren't that cute or funny or clever
in my lonely, dark, December
You'll be spared as I don't quite deserve
a fucking angel like you, so well preserved,
I'm not too sure of things for sure
for my brand of poison lacks a cure
Stay long enough and you might find
you'll never know what's truly on my mind
Distance myself right into dark pines
still right next to you, dying inside
Sorry twice and sorry thrice
but if you're insistent on being infinitely nice
I'll invite you in to give me advice
to find my voice, under the screams of the night.
