My Brother

What's wrong with us, my brother?
Couldn't we break this slence and talk to each other?

Been too many years since we broke bread
and reveled in each other's company, our minds fed
with laughter and camaraderie,
sharing childhood stories and benevolent reciprocity.

We're over fifty now, nothing to compete for anymore.
I don't even remember when you shut your door,
or me, mine.
Did we even have a last line?

At this stage, my brother, who cares who was wrong?
Let us not go back into that dreadful song
of who did this or said that and perpetuate blame,
for we'll accomplish nothing and things between us will remain the same.

Let me begin--and hear me well.
You're my brother and I love you, know this before our own death knell.
