Worshipping Asphalt
raindrops are my tears
kissing the pavement in my wake
splattering their crystalline shine
upon a shattered heart grown cold
silently, secretly aching
for the kind of release
that will soothe a battered soul
remnants of dried blood
leaked from a dead vein
I swore i'd always come to your aid
to be your hero when the crashing
of reality's waves beat down upon you
and i just want to fall on the ground
and worship the black asphalt
as i lay shivering from the freezing rain
drowning out the sounds of madness
ravaging the good that was once in me
pretend like i can't hear you
because I've slept restlessly
to the sounds of your amped up agony
you yearn for a release
to soothe your battered soul
not realizing I was here all along
to shield you from the demons
in your head
and now as you lay silent on your bed
And now as you rest peacefully in death
And now as I tear out the machines
your sweet voice echoes like a siren
singing softly in my head
and i just want to fall on the ground
and worship the black asphalt
as i lay shivering in the freezing rain
drowning out the sounds of madness
ravaging the good that was once in me
the fantasy of a lifetime
spent loving you
thrown away because I know
it was only garbage
that i told myself
even when i knew damn well
it would most likely end this way
and i just want to fall on the ground
and worship the black asphalt
as i lay shivering in the freezing rain
drowning out the sounds of madness
ravaging the good that was once in me
kissing the pavement in my wake
splattering their crystalline shine
upon a shattered heart grown cold
silently, secretly aching
for the kind of release
