The great riddle

Pretty people asleep,
Pretty people sleeping,
On the other side, people pleading,
People eating people eating people,
Earth eating earth eating earth,
Meanwhile, under the sun,  
Everything is the same,
Nothing has intrinsic value,
Some are lost, some are found,
Along the road,
People, people, melting their words,
Casting irons of hopes, dreams
Wanderers of the great unknown,
Unknown to themselves,
And to the wilderness,
Wilderness eating wilderness,
People, great oddity of the world,
Great mystic mystery of the eternal:
Who are we? Where did we come from?
Great mystic mysterious people,
Transcending the boundaries of matter,
Transcending the boundaries of mind,
Wholly being, holy creators,
Fabricators, originators of ideals,
Many falsehoods, many lies,  
Of hell and paradise, God and the devil,
All their deities in their hearts,
All their hearts the same,
All their nature human,
All their home the earth,
Blind by nature, nature spiritual,
Nature omniscient, transcendent, they see,
They steal, they grow, they kill,
They turn their eyes to fancy mirrors,
They become concealers of the tragic end,
Pretty people,
Pretty people asleep,
Who under the sunlight feed,
Feed on their kin, its home, its joy,
Pretty people sleeping,
Great riddle of us all.
