Welcome Pilgrims, And How May We Help You?

Happy Thanksgiving?
Better yet, a lamented misgiving.

Those Puritanical cast-outs
persecuted in England; in turn persecuted others while suffering bouts

of sanctimony and delusional clarity
who brought with them their diseases and Born-Again insanity

and the Native Americans more Christian than the Pilgrims greeted them with kindness
and saved them from starving, such a pure single-mindedness.

And they did it in the name of no Deity,
and with no Providence at their shoulder, but to change those weary voyager's lugubrious reality,

and without knowing Jesus, but only to help another human being,
and did it all without Old and New Testament leaning.

Simple human empathy to help a people plighted,
but where is their reciprocity, when will they be righted?
