Marble and Lace

You can taste her,
but can't take her,
anywhere, anyplace.

You can touch her,
but can't love her,
she's marble and she's lace.

You can have her,
but can't keep her,
as is always the case.

sweet like a milkshake,
built like a mistake
why don't you take a number?
sparks like a lighter
hits like a fighter
looks like we got another
another runner.

You don't know her,
but you hold her,
just as if she matters.

You say, "don't go,
but you need to"
the illusion shatters.

sweet like a milkshake,
built like a mistake
why don't you take a number?
sparks like a lighter
hits like a fighter
looks like we got another
another runner.

You don't get her,
so forget her,
she wasn't made for you.

God, I'm so lonely,
never meant to be,
nobody's follow through.

sweet like a milkshake,
built like a mistake
why don't you take a number?
sparks like a lighter
hits like a fighter
looks like we got another
another runner.
