Waterhole
We were young
And so in love
You took me to the waterhole
And I stopped to stare at a dove.
I don't know what happened
Perhaps it's my own clumsiness
I fell in the water and you did nothing
I as flailing in panic and sadness.
You stood there like you didn't care
Though you knew I couldn't swim
I struggled to breathe, watching you
I felt my eyes begin to dim.
The eyes you used to love!
Don't you love my eyes anymore?
You assured me that you loved me
But I guess that was before.
A fire crept up my fingertips
So cold that it was hot
So heartbroken, I wasn't whole
You blew me a kiss and turned away
You left me burning in the waterhole.
And so in love
You took me to the waterhole
And I stopped to stare at a dove.
I don't know what happened
Perhaps it's my own clumsiness
I fell in the water and you did nothing
I as flailing in panic and sadness.
You stood there like you didn't care
Though you knew I couldn't swim
I struggled to breathe, watching you
I felt my eyes begin to dim.
The eyes you used to love!
Don't you love my eyes anymore?
You assured me that you loved me
But I guess that was before.
A fire crept up my fingertips
So cold that it was hot
So heartbroken, I wasn't whole
You blew me a kiss and turned away
You left me burning in the waterhole.
