Jenny
Elizabeth is five and is a fairly lonesome child, who barely speaks a single word,
She often sits alone and is always seen and never heard,
She carries a torn, worn out doll which she calls ‘Jenny’,
Jenny is an old doll, and is feared by many,
Jenny’s face is distorted, her eyes missing, her porcelain cracked,
Yet Beth adores this doll and it’s a well-known fact,
Beth confides in Jenny, she’s her only friend or so it seems,
Beth never sleeps, never tries and never dreams,
She has an unhealthy obsession with this filth ridden toy,
Her parents decided that this doll they must destroy,
But this arrangement isn’t as easy as it sounds,
Jenny is always in Beth’s possession, she’s always being carried around,
But her parents are fed up with their silent child,
They want to know how she’s feeling; they want to see her smile,
They snatch Jenny from Elizabeth’s hand and take her by surprise,
They notice the repulsiveness of the doll, the lack of eyes,
They set the doll on fire and leave it to cremate into a pile of ashes,
Elizabeth stands and watches as the flames dance with passion,
Her eye fixated on the burning doll, she begins to laugh frantically,
Her parents are startled and turn towards Beth questioning her mentality,
Beth suddenly stops and turns towards her parents and smiles,
‘Thank you mummy, thank you daddy, I’ve wanted to do that for a while’
‘Jenny was a bully; she didn’t let me have friends and wouldn’t let me talk’
Her parents, shocked by their daughter’s sudden speech, take Elizabeth on a walk,
During this walk they are taught about ‘Jenny’ and her many evil ways,
She’d keep Beth alone, tease her and keep her awake for several days,
She’d threaten to hurt Beth and her parents if she even attempted to confide in another,
Jenny was a tormented soul trapped inside the doll, undercover,
Jenny wanted to know everything about Beth; she was obsessed with her purity,
Her intentions were unknown and surrounding them was a sense of obscurity,
Five years later, things begin to take a turn for the worse,
Beth’s loving father loses the ability to converse,
He’s slowly dying,
Beth won’t stop crying,
Her mother tries to comfort her, but her attempts are feeble,
Elizabeth isolates herself and expresses her feelings via her easel,
Elizabeth is talented in the form of art,
She is able to paint from the heart,
One painting chills her mother to the bone, her face turns pale,
It’s an image of Jenny and she is reminded of the surrounding tale,
Jenny’s face is burnt, her porcelain blackened,
Her head has no shape, her face is flattened,
Elizabeth is questioned on her memory of the doll’s involvement in her childhood,
‘I don’t remember anything; this is just something that I thought of’
Scared by her lack of knowledge, her mother tears the painting the - image burned onto her brain,
She warns Beth not to paint something of the sort again,
Elizabeth visits her father’s chambers and sits by his bed,
She places a kiss upon his cheek and places a pillow under his head,
She whispers in his ear: ‘I love you daddy, I do’
‘I don’t want to do this but Jenny said I have to’
Unable to converse, he cannot release a cry of terror or plead for his life,
Beth’s eyes flood with a tsunami of tears as she pulls out a knife,
She raises it above her father’s chest, directly above his pulsating heart,
Her hand shakes, she closes her eyes tight and she wishes not to take part,
But she has no other choice, Jenny will come after her and will begin to torment,
She plunges the knife through her father’s chest and she is instantly filled with repent,
Jenny wants revenge, she desires to steal Beth’s purity and corrupt her soul,
Jenny wants to generate pain, provoke Elizabeth, induce death and take control,
Jenny won’t stop, Jenny won’t leave,
Jenny will kill Elizabeth and her family this eve.
