Baldur and Hel
Underneath the roots of Yggdrasil there lays a land
The place is called Helheim, is a place for dead men
Upon the throne sit our lady Hel, the queen
Her mourning cold dead eyes make a man scream
Sister to Fenrir and of the great serpent
At birth the Allfather cast her to the pits
Spending eternity secluded and alone
With only dead and dying filling house and home
Their constant moaning cries always filling her ears
A city filled with broken men and a river made of tears
She spends all time secluded and alone
With no one beside her that she called her own
Then one day Allfather’s son found his way to Hel
Asgard was filled with weeping and funeral bells
At last Baldur had come to stay
And the underworld was filled with day
A spear made of mistletoe was his only bane
And in his heart, Baldur could never love again
Hel was overjoyed with her new found prize
Looking his face she could see the skies
Overcome with grief, Baldur’s wife took her own life
So that she could join her beloved in afterlife
Hel, she stormed at the reunion of the lovers
So it seemed she would be alone forever
