I did not even
listen for her
to answer. The
damage was done.
I sat down at
the kitchen table.
She gave me a look
of such pride it
was almost alarmingly
lustful. She stood
up from the chair near
the table. But I could
not find the courage (not
even for a single moment's
second) to gaze up and
watch her go.
