Pretending
Every angry word muttered leaves a wound deep within
In seconds you've broken through my fragile skin
I am left trembling, a bleeding man
I mistakenly thought you'd be the one to understand
I let myself be consumed by my grief
For my love was passionate but brief
And in the end i was so blind i didn't see
You were not who you pretended to be
No prayer will soothe my aching soul
No prayer will make these fragments whole
I've lost the very fabric of being
The backbone of this flesh and bloody thing
Leave it to me to trust a demon dressed in gold
Leave it to me not to do what i am told
Now i'll run away from this macabre scene
Forsaking all that we could've been
In seconds you've broken through my fragile skin
I am left trembling, a bleeding man
I mistakenly thought you'd be the one to understand
I let myself be consumed by my grief
For my love was passionate but brief
And in the end i was so blind i didn't see
You were not who you pretended to be
No prayer will soothe my aching soul
No prayer will make these fragments whole
I've lost the very fabric of being
The backbone of this flesh and bloody thing
Leave it to me to trust a demon dressed in gold
Leave it to me not to do what i am told
Now i'll run away from this macabre scene
Forsaking all that we could've been
