Disillusionist

For someone who wants
To help me fulfill
My goals and my dreams,
You sure know just
What you need to say
To smash them
All to pieces.

You want to help me,
To prepare me
For the real world,
But why must you
Work so hard to
Destroy my dreams
You don't like?

The person who made
You this way
Must be truly vile
To have made you
Give up some many
Hopes, goals, and longings,
Wishes, dreams, and desires.

To have convinced you
That only what's attainable
Is worth any merit.
To have convinced you
That any difficult dream
Is silly and meaningless,
Is somehow bad and wrong.

You break my heart
As you break my brain.
And the worst part
Is that you don't mean to.
You're just repeating
The same vicious cycle
Which was handed down to you.
