Day & Night

The sun danced along the horizon
all shimmery and true
whispering its last hoorah
against the sky still blue

It hovered there
almost restlessly on the edge
of the earth
Patiently waiting for the moon
To rise in birth

Of the night that was
still waiting on its
luminescent soul
to transform day to night
was no small feat at all

As the sun so suddenly
melted behind the horizon
in glorious shades of pink, orange and gold
how could the moon compete with that
she would not be so bold

Gently she soared into
the darkness and slowly kissed
the sky, sending out lustrous
sparkles as she slid slowly by

The sky a darkened blanket
now twinkled with delight
in the glow of the moon beams
in the starry starry night
