Not Much More Than a Thorn in Your Side

Not Much More Than a Thorn in Your Side

Self proclaimed happy people
Such prideful people
You think it's in you
You'll show more pride
Than the most courageous vet
Whose stormed the tide of Normandy
You'll say you've always been that way
You don't know why
You've always looked on the brighter side

You get to be happy
Do you understand
You get to be happy
It's out of your hands
Those mountains you feel
You've hurdled through life
Not much more
Than bumps in the sand
Lifted by lives
Of ancestry gone by

Then i stroll by
And i catch your eye
But in the end
I'm not much more
Than a thorn in your side
A grisled reminder of what you aren't
Thank god
You may ask the difference
If you have time
I may want to tell you
If i'm so inclined
But why
It never goes right

Life's basic truth
You'll call it a lie
Pain runs like water
From top to bottom
It rolls off umbrellas
And skips those who've got'em
Some eat red apples
Some dine on rotten
... i don't know what more to say..
Hear
Let me ask you a question
See if you agree...

(
Hmm
They don't understand apples?
I'd better recede
)

I don't think we were there
Any of us
You
Me
To plant the seed
