Can't Sleep

A notice pops up
needing to chat
and meeting a need
and hearing a friendly voice
is always a pleasure.

She says she can't sleep
and wants to know
if I will tell her
a bedtime story,
and I begin.

Within a few seconds
she begins to moan
and lying on her pillow
she bobs and weaves
as the story continues
as she looks for
a happy ending,
something that
will finally
knock her out.

She gasps
and grasps her sheets
biting her lips
as her eyes shut tight
and a final inhalation
that comes to a stop
at the moment
of inspiration
and the story
has worked
and she falls asleep
as the camera fades.

A faint silence
and then
her breathing
falls from a cantor
and into a lazy gait,
then finally
oblivious,
the lights go out
as the camera
blinks
like shutting the door.

Good-night, Angel.
Good-night.
