Four Years
Four years and still the tears burn my cheeks
Four years and still the stars seem to burn out
Four years and still the sun seems darkened
Four years and still the moon hides his sadness
Why, God, must you take your angels back home
I’ve spent so many days on my knees praying for you
To send her back down to me and restore my faith
In you and your merciful ways
A chalk line marks your last place in time
A single block of stone is proof of existence
A cross on the sidewalk and a raindrop on my face
I will stand here till you fly back down
Why, God, must you take my peace and reason to be
Here on this Earth by your hand and by your will
Still I feel responsible for losing such a lonely face
I could walk into the night and fade without a trace
Four years and still I write your name in the air
Four years and still I write your name in windows
Four years and still I write your name in the stars
Four years and still I write for you to hear my pleas
