The Giving Tree

We chastised the Demon's daughter
and found ourselves with the
Early morning claw marks
Of the nightmares that burrow deep
Into our serenely sleeping skulls
Like earwigs
So grotesque

Wait, hold on a second
Learn to admire the pressure it takes
To tear flesh with the baby teeth
She has carried with her silver tongue
For she knows what he wants

She sent me home the other day
And while sulking
An ostrich in the dawn
I passed a weeping willow
And yes, he was crying on his pillow

Patsy, I asked him if he was crying for me
As I placed my left hand on his back bark
Using my right hand to wipe away my own droplets
But when he lifted his mighty head
I realized he was simply laughing

He told me he saw everything before his very eyes
This cheap attemp at Shakespeare
Dramatizing the mundane teenage debauchery
We parked our malfunctioned
Fresh car smelling brains

You know, he told me something I found
Harsh and inspiring
He told me
"There's no such thing as a perfect Disney ending in real life"
"You just have to get the fuck over it and turn a new leaf"

How right he was
