Didn't Keep Our Distance
Your tears stain my chest
where my heart lay bare and bleeding.
I've a fountain behind my eyes
waiting to cleanse the pain
of heartbreak yet to come.
We play a dangerous game
and we've both won and lost.
Dangled dreams just out of reach.
Still getting closer
with no where to go
but into a wall.
Yet we can't let go.
All I can think
as I dig in my heels,
holding tight with your arms around me,
our blended heartbeats pounding in my ears,
is how long can this go on?
There is no more
but too much
distance between us.
