Slaves Mentality

Our lineage can't be traced for more than three or four generations
We have no true place to call home
We're not African or American
So can we really be called African American

Our attempts to establish a holiday uniquely ours failed
Never part of the mainstream but always there to nurture it's development
We latch onto the cultures of others and adapt like chameleons
In turn, parts of our uniqueness is taken and used; dress , speech, music
The rest discarded like old newsprint

Self loathing/drugs/alcohol have always help thinned out the herd
Subservient for far too long
What will it take for us to stand unassisted
The point...
That slave mentality is alive and well

I witnessed a family being uprooted today
Three generations, same home, memoirs lost forever
Their lives being placed on the curb like daily trash
No one fought to keep a family's foundation

We'll just get another place to live

What happen to make them think, "it's that simple"
What made them not care enough to preserve their link to the past
Still bound to a slaves mentality; perhaps

Optimism versus Hope...
Do you know the difference
Shouldn't you

Not trying to change the world
Just the way we process information
The past should be a clear reminder of what was
However...
I will not permit that slave mentality to nest in those within my reach

Words from a Modern day slave who found his freedom
